About this specimen
Lilac spheres cover this Indonesian grape agate from base to apex, thousands of them, none bigger than a peppercorn. Up the left flank a broad patch turns sage green and blue-grey, so the wedge reads as two colours meeting along a soft diagonal, while the right side stays pale mauve and glossy and catches light like frosted glass.
The green marks a change in the fluid that filled the cavity rather than a separate mineral laid over the top: chalcedony picks up faint colour from whatever trace metals are in solution as each new layer of spheres nucleates. What you are holding is the lining of a gas pocket in volcanic rock, lifted out whole. Hardness is 6.5–7, but the little spheres sit on narrow stems, so keep the surface clear of sleeves and dusting cloths.
Generous for the material at 10.2 × 3.8 × 7.6 cm and 210 g, it fills a hand as the photographs show and stands upright with no mount. Photographed as received, and shipped exactly as photographed.
