About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, scheelite with mica at 5.7 cm and 205 g; a small cabinet piece with real weight. A large honey-orange scheelite crystal with glassy faces set on a base of tan mica books.
Scheelite forms pseudo-octahedral bipyramids in Chinese tungsten deposits and fluoresces blue-white under short-wave UV.
Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 4.2 × 2.5 × 5.7 cm (1.65 × 0.98 × 2.24 in) and 205 g (7.2 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
