Shangbao, Hunan, large cubic pyrite at 5.3 cm and 132 g; a heavy small cabinet piece with one dominant cube. Keep dry.
Iron sulfide with a brass-gold colour, pyrite is heavy, bright and geometrically satisfying, with striated faces on the best crystals.
Hunan is the heartland of Chinese mineral collecting, home to Yaogangxian, Xianghualing and Shangbao, and its fluorite, calcite and sulfides are the benchmark for the country.
