About this specimen
Lilac and spring green share one crystal here. Along the upper edge a row of stepped cube faces rises like a low battlement, glassy and faintly violet; below them the interior floods with green, clouded here and there by milky zones where growth paused and began again. Held toward a window the whole slab lights up, close to 13 cm of fluorite in a single mass.
Banding like this records fluid chemistry shifting mid-growth: trace impurities and defects in the CaF2 lattice swing the absorption from violet toward green while the cube keeps stacking. Zhejiang fluorite often comes out as heavy single-crystal masses rather than open druses, which is why the surface reads as terraced cube steps and cleavage planes. At Mohs 4 with perfect octahedral cleavage, carry a mass this size with a hand underneath it.
Dimensions are 12.8 × 8.0 × 6.0 cm at 947 g. The plate rests on its own broken base; no stand is supplied. The specimen in these photographs is the one that ships.
