About this specimen
This partly polished quartz shows tourmaline in two very different forms. Deep inside, a slender purple tourmaline crystal glows violet when lit from behind, while large, dark tourmaline crystals, near-black in the photos, sit on and just under the surface with their striated sides visible through the polished windows. Thin black needles scatter through the clear quartz in between.
Several faces have been polished flat so you can look straight into the crystal, but the back keeps its original natural rough skin, with more dark tourmaline embedded in it. Measuring 15.8 × 10 × 7 cm / 6.2 × 3.9 × 2.8 in and weighing 1429 g / 50.4 oz, it is a collector's piece that rewards close inspection.
