About this specimen
Jiangxi red hematoid quartz with pyrite at 5.8 cm; a small cabinet piece with a sawn base. The supplier did not record a weight. Keep dry.
The red comes from included hematite, and the effect is strongest where the crystals are thinnest.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three. Pyrite grows as cubes, pyritohedra and octahedra with a brassy metallic lustre; Chinese pyrite is known for sharp, mirror-faced crystals.
Jiangxi is China's tungsten province; its mines have yielded wolframite, scheelite and fluorite specimens of world standard for decades.
By size it is small cabinet, 5.8 × 4.4 × 3.2 cm (2.28 × 1.73 × 1.26 in). Disclosed condition: a cut (sawn) base. The price reflects it and the photographs show the affected area. Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
