About this specimen

Satin, not glass. Every face on this lilac fluorite has been etched to a soft matte finish that scatters light rather than reflecting it, giving the crystal the quality of frosted sea-glass held up to a window. Broad triangular faces meet along clean ridges, a paler near-colourless band crosses the lower body, and a thin darker purple line marks the old contact where the crystal rested against its pocket wall.

The matte skin is not damage. Late acidic fluids in the Fujian pockets went to work on the crystal after it had finished growing, taking material away face by face and leaving the microscopically pitted surface mineralogists call solution etching. Fluorite parts perfectly on the octahedron, which also means a knock to any corner will start a flake — treat the edges gently.

Compact at 3.8 × 3.0 × 2.8 cm and 40 g, it was photographed resting on white putty on a small clear acrylic cube so the form could be seen from all sides. The crystal you are looking at is the crystal that will arrive.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
