About this specimen

The cavity in this Yaogangxian nodule is packed with water-clear quartz, sharply terminated prisms standing out in every direction from a pale grey rim. Down at the front, several blocky pyrite crystals sit wedged between the points: bright silver-grey where a fresh face catches the light, near-black where the surface has tarnished, and dense enough to give the whole opening a metallic anchor.

Pyrite (FeS2) is the harder of the two minerals here at Mohs 6 to 6.5, but it is also the one that changes over time, since sulphides oxidise slowly in damp air — that is what has already taken these faces from brass toward gunmetal. Kept dry and out of direct sun, the piece will hold its present look. The quartz, at Mohs 7, asks for nothing at all.

As tall as it is wide at 7.6 × 5.8 × 7.6 cm and 300 g, it rests on its own rounded underside with the opening tipped toward the viewer and needs no stand. The camera saw this geode and no other.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Pyrite natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
