About this specimen

This is the kind of scheelite that built Xuebaoding’s reputation: a single amber dipyramid of commanding size seated in a nest of coffee-brown muscovite rosettes, the whole specimen standing 11.9 cm tall. Under light the crystal glows from within — warm honey-orange deepening toward butterscotch where the faces thicken — while the frosted, gently etched surfaces scatter that glow like sugar. At 995 g it is a full cabinet piece with the presence of a museum exhibit.

The soft etching on the faces is characteristic of the high-altitude fissure pockets above Pingwu in Sichuan, where late-stage fluids rounded the crystal’s skin without blunting its dipyramidal geometry. The result reads two ways: sharp silhouette at arm’s length, satin glow up close. The dark bladed muscovite is not incidental either — it frames the amber crystal and supplies the contrast this classic Xuebaoding association is loved for.

Scheelite is calcium tungstate, CaWO4, and crystals of this mass are far rarer than the species itself: most Xuebaoding scheelite reaches the market as thumbnails and miniatures. A complete, undamaged dipyramid at this scale, on matrix, with color this warm, is the sort of piece that anchors a collection. Owners of a shortwave UV lamp get a second show — scheelite’s signature blue-white fluorescence.

The specimen measures 11.4 × 7.1 × 11.9 cm and ships with the custom metal display stand pictured. Every photograph shows this exact piece.
