About this specimen

Xuebaoding, Sichuan, cassiterite at 2.8 cm and 21 g; a miniature. A group of sharp black cassiterite crystals with mirror-bright faces; the supplier notes a mining-contact base.

Look for the elbow twins and mirror-like lustre that make cassiterite so distinctive; its density is nearly seven times that of water.

The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.

The piece is miniature in size, 2 × 1.8 × 2.8 cm (0.79 × 0.71 × 1.10 in) and 21 g (0.7 oz). Disclosed condition: a mining-contact base. The price reflects it and the photographs show the affected area. The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Every specimen here is photographed and catalogued individually before listing.
