Fujian smoky quartz on feldspar at 12 cm; the recorded weight of 48 g looks low for this size and should be re-checked on arrival.
Smoky quartz owes its brown-to-black tone to natural irradiation of trace aluminium in the lattice, and the best pieces keep transparency through the colour.
Feldspar is the matrix of choice in Chinese pegmatite specimens: blocky cream to pale-orange crystals that set off the garnet, quartz and tourmaline growing on them. Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.
Dimensions place it in the large cabinet range, 48 g (1.7 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
