About this specimen

The dominant cube on this Inner Mongolia specimen is the colour of sea glass and just as matte: a softly translucent blue-green block about the size of a walnut, its upper edge broken into flat terraces where growth restarted layer by layer. A second, paler cube sits in front of it with the same stepped tops, and a third is half-buried at the right. All three rest on a pale grey matrix flecked with ochre and dark specks.

Frosted faces like these are usually the last chapter of the crystal’s life — a late overgrowth of micro-crystals that scatters light instead of reflecting it, which is why the green reads as deep and velvety rather than glassy. Inner Mongolia has produced fluorite in this muted, terraced style for years, and it holds colour under a lamp better than transparent material does. Fluorite is Mohs 4, so keep it clear of harder minerals on the shelf.

Overall 8.1 × 6.6 × 3.8 cm at 210 g, a comfortable weight in the hand. Each image belongs to this specimen alone; it ships exactly as pictured.
