About this specimen
Every face of this Yaogangxian fluorite is a staircase: grape-purple cubes whose surfaces break into crisp right-angled terraces, stacking and interlocking until the whole group reads like blockwork architecture in miniature. The color runs a satisfying mid-purple — deep enough to saturate, light enough to stay translucent for a couple of centimetres.
A pinch of glassy quartz at the crown marks the pocket association, and the stepped growth is what separates characterful Yaogangxian fluorite from plain cubes: it catches light on hundreds of tiny edges and keeps the surface alive as the piece turns.
At 7.1 × 5.6 × 6.6 cm and 309 g it is a solid small-cabinet piece from the Yaogangxian mine in Chenzhou, Hunan — the world’s benchmark fluorite locality — and it photographs exactly as it looks in hand: the images show the very specimen on offer.
