About Daoping Mineextended article

The world's finest pyromorphite

The Daoping lead–zinc mine, near Yangshuo in the Guilin area of Guangxi, is internationally recognised as the premier locality for collectable pyromorphite. Specimens from Daoping — vivid grass-green hexagonal crystals and botryoidal druses — set the global standard for the species and helped define it as a collector mineral from the 1990s onward.

What Daoping is known for

  • Pyromorphite — brilliant grass-green to yellow-green crystal druses
  • Mimetite and cerussite from the oxidised zone
  • Associated galena and secondary lead minerals

Collector value

Colour saturation, crystal coverage, and undamaged druse faces are the main value drivers. The most vivid green Daoping pyromorphite, especially on contrasting matrix, is highly prized and increasingly difficult to source at top quality.
