About this specimen
Meigu, Sichuan, garden quartz with epidote at 3 cm; a miniature. A quartz crystal, clear through most of its body, with small green epidote crystals caught near one face and a faint smoky cast deeper inside.
The inclusions in garden quartz are frozen mid-growth, which is why every crystal reads as a small, unrepeatable scene.
Epidote forms pistachio-green prismatic crystals, often striated, and is a classic companion of quartz and feldspar in Chinese skarn deposits.
Meigu County in the Liangshan prefecture of Sichuan is known for green phantom quartz with epidote and chlorite inclusions.
The piece is miniature in size, 3 × 2.6 × 2.3 cm (1.18 × 1.02 × 0.91 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
