About this specimen
DR Congo malachite at 4.5 cm; a miniature, supplied on the acrylic stand shown. Botryoidal malachite in dark green sits along the top of a thin tan blade of rock, the balls clustered most thickly at one end and thinning to single knobs at the other.
Malachite is a copper carbonate whose banded, botryoidal growth produces the concentric greens collectors know; the Congo material is the best known to collectors.
DR Congo's copper and cobalt districts produce the deepest green malachite and the most vivid cobaltoan calcite on the market.
By size it is miniature, 4.5 × 1.4 × 1 cm (1.77 × 0.55 × 0.39 in). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
