About this specimen
Guangdong malachite at 2.7 cm; a miniature, supplied in the display box shown. Malachite in bright green covers the ridges of a dark matrix in fine fibrous growth, the green strongest along the raised edges where the crust is thickest.
Malachite is a copper carbonate whose banded, botryoidal growth produces the concentric greens collectors know; the Congo material is the best known to collectors.
Guangdong is the source of the red hematoid quartz and green phantom quartz that reached collectors after 2015.
The piece is miniature in size, 2.7 × 1.3 × 1.3 cm (1.06 × 0.51 × 0.51 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
