About this specimen
A single lavender fluorite crystal takes the high point of this Shangbao Mine specimen, perched on a sparkling bed of cream drusy quartz the way the best pocket pieces seem to compose themselves. The cube is softened by frosted, gently bevelled faces; violet color pools in its depths and pales toward the surface, so the crystal reads as lit from within rather than painted on.
Around it the quartz druse carries scattered white dolomite and a stout little calcite — exactly the mineral company Shangbao is loved for. The mine, in the Leiyang region of Hunan, earned its name on this pairing: pastel fluorite over glittering white matrix, quieter than Yaogangxian’s saturated purples and, to many eyes, more elegant.
The specimen measures 9.4 × 5.6 × 5.1 cm and weighs 190 g — a small-cabinet piece with a natural front-facing posture that needs no stand. The photographs are of the exact specimen on offer.
