About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, scheelite at 4 cm and 72 g; a miniature. A honey-orange scheelite crystal with glassy faces; the supplier notes a mining-contact base.
Scheelite is calcium tungstate, forming orange to honey-coloured bipyramids with a greasy lustre and a bright blue-white fluorescence under short-wave UV.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
By size it is miniature, 4 × 2.3 × 3.1 cm (1.57 × 0.91 × 1.22 in) and 72 g (2.5 oz). Disclosed condition: a mining-contact base. The price reflects it and the photographs show the affected area. Condition is otherwise as photographed.
