About this specimen
Indian apophyllite with zeolite at 4 cm and 15 g; a miniature. A cluster of pale green, glassy apophyllite crystals with a slender white zeolite crystal standing on top, on a dark base.
Apophyllite's water-clear to pale green pyramids and pearly cleavage faces make the species unusually photogenic.
Zeolites are framework silicates that line volcanic cavities with radiating and bladed white crystals.
India's Deccan basalts around Pune and Nashik are the world's source of apophyllite, stilbite and other zeolite specimens.
By size it is miniature, 4 × 2.6 × 2.4 cm (1.57 × 1.02 × 0.94 in) and 15 g (0.5 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
