About this specimen
The largest fluorite on this Guizhou plate wears a face like a printed grid: deep violet squares and rectangles standing in low relief against paler ground, blocky and abrupt enough that everyone who picks it up says the same two letters. A second cube above repeats the pattern nearly as large, a third off to the right at half that, and a trail of purple crumbs runs between them over a cream-white sugary crust.
The grid is an etch figure. After the cubes had grown, a later fluid attacked them unevenly, dissolving along internal growth blocks and leaving the more resistant ones proud — solution working with the crystal’s own architecture rather than against it. The white blanket arrived afterwards, stopping short of the fluorite tops, which is why the violet reads so hard against it. Fluorite is Mohs 4: a soft brush, and no solvents on that textured surface.
The plate runs 6.9 × 2.3 × 4.1 cm at 50 g and leans on its thicker tan edge without a stand. All images are of this plate itself, with no substitution.
