About this specimen

Hubei azurite with malachite at 5.1 cm and 63 g; a small cabinet piece. A nodule of royal-blue azurite with patches of green malachite breaking through, the two minerals the supplier lists.

The saturated blue of azurite stands out among the common minerals, and Chinese and Congolese material now sits alongside the classic Moroccan finds.

Malachite forms wherever copper ores weather, but few localities match the depth of green and the velvet surfaces of central African material.

Hubei's Daye copper-iron mines are famous for calcite, and the province also produces fluorite and quartz from its mountain districts.

By size it is small cabinet, 3.2 × 2.7 × 5.1 cm (1.26 × 1.06 × 2.01 in) and 63 g (2.2 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.

Copper mineral: avoid dust, wash hands after handling.

Every specimen here is photographed and catalogued individually before listing.
