Hubei red-capped tower calcite at 8.5 cm and 187 g; a cabinet piece with a rare form.
Calcium carbonate in its rhombohedral form, calcite is soft (Mohs 3) and takes a bright vitreous to pearly lustre on fresh faces.
Hubei's Daye copper-iron mines are famous for calcite, and the province also produces fluorite and quartz from its mountain districts.
Dimensions place it in the cabinet range, 8.5 × 6.5 × 5.5 cm (3.35 × 2.56 × 2.17 in) and 187 g (6.6 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
