About this specimen
White to cream calcite columns rise in several directions above a dark, irregular base. Many display broad polygonal ends, and their different lengths create a stepped skyline. Shorter translucent crystals occupy the spaces between the taller columns rather than forming one continuous surface.
Upright columns meet a more densely intergrown group along one side. The base remains visible along the bottom and at the corners, setting off the pale crystal group. In this substantial Fujian calcite specimen, the main interest is the variation in column size, orientation and exposed end faces.
