About this specimen
Guangxi, pyromorphite with quartz at 3.9 cm; a miniature, supplied on the acrylic stand shown. Pyromorphite in a bright apple green covers the top of the piece in a thick crust of small barrel crystals, with the tan matrix and a little quartz showing along the lower edge.
Pyromorphite is lead chlorophosphate, forming barrel-shaped hexagonal prisms in green to yellow-green; the Guangxi and Yunnan material is world class.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.
Guangxi is the source of China's best pyromorphite and of the rhodochrosite and calcite from the Wuzhou lead-zinc mines.
The piece is miniature in size, 3.9 × 2.8 × 1.8 cm (1.54 × 1.10 × 0.71 in). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
