About this specimen

Yaogangxian, Hunan, fluorite with quartz at 4.5 cm and 49 g; a miniature from a famous mine. Wash hands after handling.

Fluorite is the classic collector's halide: calcium fluoride that grows as cubes, octahedra and stepped combinations, often with colour zoning that shows best in daylight.

Quartz is the most collected mineral on earth for good reason: sharp hexagonal prisms, bright terminations and endless variation between localities.

Hunan is the heartland of Chinese mineral collecting, home to Yaogangxian, Xianghualing and Shangbao, and its fluorite, calcite and sulfides are the benchmark for the country.

Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 4.5 × 4 × 2.8 cm (1.77 × 1.57 × 1.10 in) and 49 g (1.7 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.

Every specimen here is photographed and catalogued individually before listing.
