About this specimen
Guangdong quartz on specular hematite at 9.3 × 8 × 9.5 cm and 354 g; a cabinet piece with strong contrast. A group of pale pink, translucent quartz prisms standing upright on a base of black bladed specular hematite, every termination complete, which the supplier notes.
Specularite forms glittering steel-grey plates, the iron oxide that makes so much Guangdong quartz sparkle.
Good quartz is about hexagonal prisms with clean terminations and the glassy lustre that lets a cluster catch light from every angle.
Guangdong is the source of the red hematoid quartz and green phantom quartz that reached collectors after 2015.
