About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, scheelite with mica at 8 cm and 352 g; a cabinet plate. A plate of pale yellow scheelite crystals grown among golden-tan mica rosettes, the two minerals the supplier lists.
Scheelite is calcium tungstate, forming orange to honey-coloured bipyramids with a greasy lustre and a bright blue-white fluorescence under short-wave UV.
Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
The piece is cabinet in size, 8 × 5.6 × 5.5 cm (3.15 × 2.20 × 2.17 in) and 352 g (12.4 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
