About this specimen
Fifteen centimetres of seafoam fluorite, ground into a six-sided column and taken to a mirror polish. Held to the light the shaft turns almost aqueous — pale mint at the tip, cooling to a deeper sea-green toward the foot — with white cloud-like veils drifting through the interior along old cleavage and fracture planes. The apex is a clean pyramid, six triangular facets meeting on one point.
Fluorite sits at 4 on the Mohs scale and parts along four perfect octahedral cleavages, so a column this long is patient lapidary work: the rough block has to be oriented until no cleavage plane runs out through a finished face. The same softness sets the care rules. Keep it off stone and glass shelves, wipe it with a dry cloth rather than a wet one, and never send it through an ultrasonic cleaner.
The column stands 15.2 cm tall on a 3.6 × 3.3 cm footprint and weighs 370 g. It ships with the black metal stand seen here, whose two arms cradle the shaft at mid-height. The tower pictured is the one you receive.
