About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, scheelite with mica at 13 cm and 208 g; a large cabinet plate. A long, flat plate of silvery mica books with a single orange scheelite crystal set at its centre, the scheelite glowing against the grey.
Scheelite forms pseudo-octahedral bipyramids in Chinese tungsten deposits and fluoresces blue-white under short-wave UV.
Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
Dimensions place it in the large cabinet range, 3.1 × 5.7 × 13 cm (1.22 × 2.24 × 5.12 in) and 208 g (7.3 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
