About this specimen

Brass-gold pyrite crowds the face of this small Spanish plate, crystal after crystal packed shoulder to shoulder until barely a gap is left. Fine parallel striations rake across every face and catch the light in narrow bands. Where the gold thins out, water-clear quartz crystals sit wedged in the interstices, small and stubby rather than columnar, and a rim of ochre rock survives along one edge.

The striations reward a loupe. Pyrite, FeS2, alternates between cube and pyritohedron faces as it grows, and the two habits interleave in fine steps that record every switch. At Mohs 6 to 6.5 the mineral is hard but brittle, and its metallic lustre dulls under damp fingers, so a dry case and dry hands keep the gold bright for decades.

The plate measures 6.1 × 2.9 × 3.6 cm and weighs 105 g, a comfortable palm size shown here between finger and thumb; no base is supplied. What you see in the photographs is the piece we will pack and send.

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
