Lazurite
Lazurite is the feldspathoid that gives lapis lazuli its legendary ultramarine blue. In the rock, it is accompanied by white calcite and brassy specks of pyrite — the three-part signature of good lapis. Ground lazurite was the original ultramarine pigment, once costlier than gold and reserved by Renaissance painters for the most important passages of a canvas.
