About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, scheelite with mica at 2.9 cm and 23 g; a miniature. A cluster of golden-yellow scheelite crystals with mica flecks, the two minerals the supplier lists.
Scheelite forms pseudo-octahedral bipyramids in Chinese tungsten deposits and fluoresces blue-white under short-wave UV.
Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 2.9 × 2.4 × 1.7 cm (1.14 × 0.94 × 0.67 in) and 23 g (0.8 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
