About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, scheelite with mica at 2.4 cm and 25 g; a thumbnail. A honey-yellow scheelite crystal with glassy faces and white mica flakes on its surface.
Scheelite forms pseudo-octahedral bipyramids in Chinese tungsten deposits and fluoresces blue-white under short-wave UV.
Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
The piece is thumbnail in size, 2.4 × 2.3 × 2.4 cm (0.94 × 0.91 × 0.94 in) and 25 g (0.9 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
