About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, scheelite with calcite at 7.4 cm and 308 g; a small cabinet piece with real weight. A large honey-yellow scheelite crystal with small white calcite crystals dotted across its faces, the scheelite glassy beneath.
Scheelite forms pseudo-octahedral bipyramids in Chinese tungsten deposits and fluoresces blue-white under short-wave UV.
Collectors chase calcite for form rather than colour: crisp crystal edges and a habit you can identify from across the room.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
