About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, scheelite at 3.6 cm and 33 g; a miniature with an uncommon habit. A group of honey-orange scheelite crystals, some in an unusual columnar habit the supplier notes, with white matrix at the base.
Scheelite is calcium tungstate, forming orange to honey-coloured bipyramids with a greasy lustre and a bright blue-white fluorescence under short-wave UV.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
The piece is miniature in size, 3.6 × 1.9 × 3.1 cm (1.42 × 0.75 × 1.22 in) and 33 g (1.2 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
