This golden-yellow Nummulites fossil forms a thin disc with fine, pale winding lines across its broad face. A slightly uneven perimeter and gentle variations in tone bring out the delicate surface pattern. Nummulites were marine foraminifera: single-celled organisms with mineralized tests, not rugose corals.
Locality: China. 5 g (0.18 oz); 2.7 × 0.3 × 2.7 cm (27 × 3 × 27 mm; 1.06 × 0.12 × 1.06 in).
