About this specimen
Wuzhou, Guangxi, rhodochrosite at 2.2 cm; a thumbnail, supplied in the display box shown. Rhodochrosite in a soft rose pink covers the face of an upright piece in fine crystalline growth, the colour holding evenly from top to bottom.
Rhodochrosite is manganese carbonate, and its raspberry-to-rose colour is entirely natural; Chinese material from Guangxi and Inner Mongolia has become a collector favourite.
Guangxi is the source of China's best pyromorphite and of the rhodochrosite and calcite from the Wuzhou lead-zinc mines.
Dimensions place it in the thumbnail range, 2.2 × 1.2 × 0.9 cm (0.87 × 0.47 × 0.35 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
