About this specimen
The Chinese trade name for this colour is old-melon yellow, and it fits: the citrine runs from deep honey through amber to a smoky brown at the edges, and throws an orange glow onto the hand beneath it. The colour is natural.
Through the centre, countless fine white rabbit-hair needles gather into a silky, misty band, so the middle of the sphere looks brushed. Turn it and you find more character: golden glints and a small rainbow on one face, a dark phantom sheet with a rust-red edge on another, and a dense tangle of fine brown needles on the far side. A well-polished Brazilian sphere with plenty to discover.
