About this specimen
A belt of golden veils wraps around the middle of this Brazilian citrine sphere, like a band of cirrus cloud seen through clear yellow water. Above and below it, the quartz is open and remarkably transparent, in a pale gold that turns warm amber where light gathers near the edge.
The veils are layered and feathery, with fine needle-like streaks running along them, and here and there a small rainbow flickers inside the band. From one side a different scene appears: white, frosty clouds and a bright rainbow near the centre. At this size it has excellent depth on a stand. Polished.
