Albite
Albite is a silicate mineral recognized among collectors for its crystal form and distribution, with known Chinese sources.
About Albite
Albite is a silicate mineral in the feldspar group (plagioclase series) and has the chemical formula NaAlSi3O8. It crystallizes in the triclinic system and holds a steady position among silicate species.
Identification & care
Crystals commonly develop as tabular, platy, massive; twinning (albite law, pericline law) nearly ubiquitous. Its color range is broad, including colorless, white, pale gray, and sometimes greenish or reddish. The luster is vitreous to pearly on cleavage, the streak is white, and specimens range from transparent to translucent. The cleavage is perfect {001} and {010} at ~86°. The fracture is uneven to conchoidal, which aids identification.
Collector context
Collector notes
Albite holds a steady place in systematic mineral collections. Albite is widely represented across Chinese provinces, including Fujian, Gansu, Anhui, Beijing.
