About Daoping Mine
Daoping Mine in Guangxi province has emerged as a significant collector source for purple Chinese fluorite, often in matrix combinations with galena, sphalerite, and pyrite. Less internationally known than Hunan localities, Daoping fluorite is distinct – deep purple cubes 1-4 cm with sharp edges – and represents the next-tier locality for Chinese fluorite collectors.
Mining History
Industrial Pb-Zn mining at Daoping developed in the late 20th century as part of broader Guangxi polymetallic exploitation. Specimen-grade fluorite recovery is largely a byproduct of ore extraction; the mine reaches international markets through specialized dealer channels rather than institutional supply.
Signature Specimens
Deep purple fluorite cubes (1-4 cm, often as cube edges meeting sharply) with galena, sphalerite, or pyrite. Combination matrix specimens with three or four species are characteristic. Color saturation distinguishes Daoping fluorite from the green Yaogangxian standard.
